When it comes to buying a used car, one of the most important pieces of information you need is the vehicle identification number (VIN). This 17-digit code contains a wealth of information about the car, including its make, model, and year of production. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at Ssang Yong VIN numbers and what you need to know when buying a used Ssang Yong vehicle.
What is a Ssang Yong VIN Number?
A Ssang Yong VIN number is a unique 17-digit code assigned to every Ssang Yong vehicle that contains information about the vehicle’s make, model, year of production, and country of origin. The VIN number is used to track and identify vehicles by law enforcement agencies, insurance companies, and dealerships. It can also be used to verify the authenticity of a vehicle and track its history, including any accidents or repairs that it may have undergone. Ssang Yong VIN numbers are similar to other VIN numbers and follow a specific format that contains information about the vehicle’s make, model, and production sequence.

Visible Ssang Yong VIN Number
Older vehicles have no visible VIN. The visible Ssang Yong VIN at the Korando (from 2011) is stuck on an appropriate cutout at the dashboard on the left (as seen in the direction of travel). The Ssang Yong VIN Number and the brand logo are inscribed by a laser.
The Ssang Yong VIN number is a unique 17-digit code that contains information about the vehicle’s make, model, year of production, and country of origin. The VIN number can be found in several locations on the vehicle, including:
- Dashboard – The most common location for the Ssang Yong VIN number is on the dashboard, just behind the windshield on the driver’s side. The VIN number can be easily viewed from outside the vehicle by looking through the windshield.
- Door Jamb – The VIN number can also be found on the driver’s side door jamb, usually on a metal plate or sticker. This location is also commonly used for vehicle inspections and registration purposes.
- Engine Block – On some Ssang Yong models, the VIN number may also be located on the engine block. This location is less commonly used, but can still be a useful way to verify the authenticity of the vehicle.
- Vehicle Registration and Title – The VIN number is also listed on the vehicle’s registration and title documents, which can be used to verify the vehicle’s ownership and track its history.

Appearance of the stamped Ssang Yong VIN Number
Depending on the model, the VIN is either punched or etched onto the vehicle in a straight line. The VIN on all models has a star at both ends. Each model may have a different symbol, but the symbols on the Ssang Yong VIN Number are always the same. All characters on a VIN are the same size and the same distance apart. The ‘0’ on the Rodius has a slash going from the bottom left to the top right (see the example below).

The carved marked VIN is topically applied at several places, so that the characters cannot be seen always.

Exceptions:
The last six characters of the Ssang Yong VIN Number and the paint code (comprising three letters) of each vehicle are etched onto the radiator yoke on vehicles made from model year 2006 onwards. The ‘0’ here also has a slash through it.

How to Decode a Ssang Yong VIN Number?
To decode a Ssang Yong VIN number, you need to know what each digit represents. Here’s a breakdown of what each digit in a Ssang Yong VIN number means:
Digits 1-3: The first three digits of a Ssang Yong VIN number indicate the manufacturer and country of origin. For Ssang Yong vehicles, the first three digits are KPT, which stands for Ssang Yong Motor Company in South Korea.
Digits 4-8: The fourth to eighth digits of a Ssang Yong VIN number contain information about the vehicle’s make and model. This includes the vehicle line, body style, engine type, and other important details.
Digits 9: The ninth digit of a Ssang Yong VIN number is a check digit that is used to verify the authenticity of the VIN number.
Digits 10-17: The final eight digits of a Ssang Yong VIN number are used to identify the specific vehicle. This includes the production sequence number, which indicates the order in which the vehicle was produced.
