Type Plate Aston Martin Auto:
Location of the type plate
The type plate is usually installed in the engine compartment.
In older vehicles it is riveted, in more recent vehicles it is glued.

Composition and appearance of the type plates Aston Martin Auto
Older models:
In the early models prior to the DB7 series, the type plates were made of brass
and were attached to the vehicle with copper rivets.
The data were punched in.
Vanquish
In the Vanquish, an unpolished aluminium plate with pin-marked (neddle-punched) figures was used.
(new e11 number and weight data)
V8 Vantage, DB9, DBS, Rapide
The type plates of the more recent models are uniform. The data are engraved in a polished aluminium platelet. The logo, the written name “Aston Martin Lagonda Limited“ and the black frame are always printed thereon
Type plates for the North American market
Vehicles for the U.S./Canadian market have glued, laser-marked type plates with data according to U.S. regulations. The plates are usually glued to the drivers’s door. (picture: Rapide).

The typography of the VIN on the U.S- VIN plate of the Rapide corresponds to the engraved VIN of the Rapide (the letters are not always completely depicted, see F, H, A).

Aston Martin body plate from Superleggera
The car bodies of the DB4 – DB6 models were manufactured by Superleggera in Milan/Italy, among others, which is indicated by a special plate near the VIN plate in the engine compartment.
It is a brass plate with punched-in data.
The body number corresponds to the VIN and has to be identical to the VIN on the type plate.
Engine Number Aston Martin Auto :
The engine number can be used at the works to identify a specific vehicle.
However importers and dealerships can only identify the engine number using the VIN.
Location of the engine number Aston Martin
The engine number normally stampe onto the engine block.
The position can vary depending on the type of engine.
On some engines (e.g. on the Aston Martin DB7 R6-engine and V8 Vantage from 2005) the positioning of the engine number makes it very difficult to read.
In early models (all vehicles prior to the V8 Vantage of the 1990s) the engine number is identical to the last figures of the VIN.
For this reason, the same number punche into replacement engines of these models.
Only the manufacturer (Aston Martin Work Service) can find out in their records archive whether a replacement engince has been installed.

(at the back of the engine at the transition to the transmission on the left side, hardly visible)
(front left, as viewed from the driver’s seat, readily visible from above past the air intake tube)
(placed on the side, towards the bottom on the engine block; only visible from below when the lower engine cladding between the penultimate and the last manifold elbow has been removed).

Appearance of the engine number
The engine number punche into the engine block (earlier vehicles), pin-marked/needle-punched (V8 Vantage) or engraved (DB9/DBS starting 2009).
Whereas earlier engines manufacture by Cosworth in Great Britain and have a manually punched-in engine number, the engine numbers of more recent engines, starting 2004, (manufactured in the Aston-Martin engine plant on the site of the Ford plant in Cologne-Niel) have been applied mechanically and thus more precisely.
Examples:

Engine number sticker
Some of the newer engines (e.g. V12 engine in the DB9/DBS) have an engine number sticker at the rear of the engine on a plastic support above the gearbox.
On this sticker, you find the engine identification number with engine type and engine serial number.
As well as the manufacturing date of the engine.

Gearbox number:
The gearbox number can use at the works to identify a specific vehicle.Current models are of the transaxle construction type, which means that the gearbox not flange to the engine but, for reasons of optimum weight distribution, locate just before the rear axle directly at the differential.
Location of the gearbox number for Aston Martin Auto
The current Aston Martin vehicles equippe with gearboxes manufactured by “ZF“ and “Graziano“
The automatic gearboxes (standard in DB9, DBS, Rapide models) maKe by ZF, the appropriate differentials are made by Graziano. The manual gearboxes (V8 Vantage) and the sport shift gearboxes (automated gearbox, on special request) are completely made by Graziano.
ZF gearbox
The gearbox identification number of ZF automatic gearboxes is located on the left side of the gearbox

Graziano gearbox
The gearbox identification number of manuak gearboxes by Graziano is located under the gearbox, level with the rear axle.

The Graziano sport shift gearbox additionally has a hydraulic system on the left side (without individual number),and the gearbox number is located at the same place as in the manual gearbox

Aston Martin Auto Graziano differential
The Graziano differential number (for automatic gearboxes made by ZF) is located underneath the differential, level with the rear axle.
Appearance of the gearbox number for Aston Martin Auto
The gearbox number indicate on a riveted metal plate on the casing.
The data on the metal plate needle-punche by Graziano, with the single dots overlapping; at ZF the data engrave , the respective starting points of the engravings being clearly visible.
(the upper number is the gearbox number)
Gearbox number sticker
In the ZF automatic gearbox, the additional gearbox number sticker is located on top of the gearbox housing approximately level with the gearbox number plate.

The gearbox number sticker of the Aston Martin Auto Graziano manual gearbox is located on a bracket above the gearbox.

The Graziano differential also has a sticker on which the differential number repeate .
It is located on the housing

Vehicle Keys for Aston Martin Auto :
Aston Martin Auto come with two keys. A total of six keys can programme subsequently by an Aston Martin diagnostic tool via an online connection (protected Internet connection with user ID and password) to the host computer at the Aston Martin plant.
While the full version of the diagnostic instruments delivere to official Aston Martin dealers and the basic version (worth approx. € 10,000) also sell to independent dealers/workshops.
The keys do not contain the Vehicle Identification Nember or any service data.
The keys do however have a serial number, which can be identified at the works using the VIN.
In vehicles as from model year 2008, you can also find out the VIN on the basis of the key serial number, as the barcode with the serial number scanne in the key packaging before the keys delivere .
Older models have mechanical keys and (in the old Ford design) with a remote control appended.
From these keys the mechanical lock code of the key bit can be read, that it may be possible because further information is available – to identify the corresponding vehicle.

Newer models have an electronic key, the mechanical part use to open the doors and the glove compartment.
The car starte by inserting the electronic key in a shaft in the central console.

The keys of DBS models decorate with a sapphire; these keys are worth about € 2,000.
