N.B.: Many blank vehicle registration documents have been stolen.
As these are often not entered into the SIS, trace enquiries should be made over the Internet. For example, many stolen ranges of numbers are included in the list of stolen blank documents maintained by the Swiss Border Service. When checking stolen vehicle registration documents which have been put on search files, do not neglect to check the model (on old documents this can be found above heading No. 2, e.g., Mod. MC 804) as in some instances, on both old and new registration documents, the same document number was issued or put on search files.
However, as the model designation is often not included in police and search records, the suspected stolen vehicle registration document should be checked in Italy before any further measures are taken.
