According to new regulations, the U.S./Canadian VIN must have a letter on the 7th position as from 2010. In all Porsche cars, the number “9“ (first position of type) is replaced by the letter “A“.
For the Mexican, Brazilian, Chinese and Korean markets, the so-called U.S. VIN comprising the number “9“ at the 7th position is maintained.

In MY2004, 674 vehicles with type code 9P0 instead of 9PA were produced, i.e., on these vehicles, on the 12th character of the VIN there is a zero “0”. This concerns vehicles with the VIN range WP1ZZZ9PZ4L002845 to WP1ZZZ9PZ4L003419.

On the Cayenne and Macan the 13th character of the VIN belongs to the serial number.
In the 997, 991 and 987, 981 models, the body code is encoded in the counting number as from MY 2010 (at the latest) (this numbering may change annually; see table below under Item 9) and can differ from the following table.
