1. Vehicle Identification Number:
1.1 Location of the VIN
The VIN is located in the front right wheelcase on the side member of the frame of the Mercedes G . It may be covered by underbody protection or dirt and may have to be cleared for checking.
1.2 Appearance of the stamped VIN
Since 1972, the Mercedes star has always appeared at both ends of the Mercedes brand VIN. One point of the star always points towards the top. The characters are applied in a row without blanks.
1.3 VIN Lettering
When the G-model was launched, steel stamping/punched numerals were used for the VIN. The punched numbers have the same shape and size as the numbers used in the passenger cars.
The picture only demonstrates what the punched numbers look like; it does not correspond to the VIN break down of the G-class, however.
Since 2 September 1996, as from production No. 6109636 and VIN WDB46133817106708, the VIN has been scribe-marked.
